An experimental publication inviting practicing
designers to discuss and compare their approaches
Obliquite is a annual publication with a distinctive approach: it only invites practicing designers to take part. Each issue has a specific theme, and gathers from 6 to 8 designers or studios. Each of them is asked to showcase a few works, publish one essay and answer to an interview which comes back to their words, and creates links with the other interventions. This new media allows to access designers thoughts, questions and references.
Emile De Visscher is the founder and editor in chief of Obliquite.
If compared to fine arts, architecture, performing arts or graphic design, the product design literature is quite limited in terms of volume. The intent of Obliquite is to populate this missing literature, thourgh the designers'words themselves. Design is undergoing major changes since a decade, and documenting these new approaches allows to understand, confront, and question them.
Obliquite is published by an independent non-profit organisation, called Les Presses Pondérées. It is composed of a collective of product designers, graphic designers, design critics and book lovers. The publication is financed through sale, private donators, institutions and public funds.
